Looking forward to your in depth comparison! Reply Helpful Thread reply - more options Link to this Post. User profile for user: Eeyore87 Eeyore I've been doing a lot of research online. I saw on another forum that QOC can only work with files while online, so you have to be in a wifi hotspot on on the 3G network to do anything with it. Anybody know if it's true? If so, that's a huge strike against it for me, and I'd have to go with D2GP. I created. For everyone like me who wants specifics, here you go.
You can create bulleted lists all bullet icons the same regardless of hierarchy. You can edit the cell contents of existing tables, but you can't create a new table, row, column, or edit borders.
Unsupported fonts will be displayed in--but not permanently converted into--one of the 7 supported fonts; as a result, line breaks and alignment may appear different on the iPad display than the original font in MS Word. Extra space between paragraphs will likely appear on the iPad and text will not be wrapped around a graphic correctly; both return to normal in MS Word if you leave them alone.
The following items will be stripped from the file: watermarks, page borders, hyperlinks, footnotes. Formatting retention seems good. Charts will not appear in QOC, but are not stripped. Obviously, macros are out. Ditto for the spreadsheet. The user interface was good. File management and transferring files via iTunes or DropBox was easy.
I don't know--I don't have any of those apps. If you can live within the limitations above, then this is a worthwhile app. User profile for user: hsimaH hsimaH. Mar 2, PM in response to Eeyore87 In response to Eeyore87 I like this review, it's comprehensive and you didn't leave much out. Except it was pretty impartial and when it came to comparison, you just gave up and admitted you didn't have much point of comparison.
I don't blame you, as these apps are overpriced considering they are crippled. Why offer a word processor as an app if it cannot be up to snuff? You shouldn't have to to have a 'real' computer in order to run a word processor; and if you can run a word processor regardless of the platform, it should run like one and not have stupid inconsistencies in formatting.
That said, what have you discovered about Openoffice's handling of footnotes? I don't think it was supported when this thread was originally created, but I was wondering if that has changed because since then I think they have released some updates. Is it fully compatible with iOS7? The hard drive […]. So I already know what my major Christmas present will be this year although I do not yet have it, but thanks […]. I have written elsewhere about the iPad and why I think the iPad will work for me.
I have placed my order […]. The new app works closely with Google Drive to provide a unified cloud storage solution where you can access, edit, and store your files.
I just spent two hours on an excel file only to have excel crash before i saved it and lost my work. I want to be able to work without having to manually save my file every few minutes.
There isn't a way for Dropbox to do this but as I understand it there is an auto-save feature in Microsoft Excel. I believe most versions have this. Also clicking on Likes would be super. View solution in original post. The problem is that Excel automatically turns off and greys out the auto-save function when saving to Dropbox. So there's no way to enable auto-save when saving to Dropbox. It's possible Microsoft does this to encourage people to save to OneDrive instead of Dropbox.
If you're referring to auto-saving directly to your Dropbox account then it's very likely that Microsoft prevents that as a way to force OneDrive use. There are even topics on Microsoft's forums that discuss this, and the usual answer is to use OneDrive. However, the auto-save feature just needs a folder on your computer, and you can easily specify your local Dropbox folder.
Any files that are auto-saved to the Dropbox folder are then synced like any other file would be. I have my local Dropbox specified as the auto-save location in Excel and it's never been an issue. Thanks Rich. Your solution seemed perfect The AutoSave switch is still greyed out.
